Wing Wars 4 was the best yet!   Participating restaurants outdid themselves in presenting creative recipes for the tastiest wings.   Congratulations to Wise Guys!   Lisa and her staff recaptured the Wing Wars trophy with their sweet Teriyaki honey garlic wings; served with a side of blue cheese but so good we did even need the dipping sauce.  Last year's champ Kanu served up a Tandoori BBQ wing with a cucumber dip.   Thanks also to The Dancing Bear (cherry chipotle wings); Romano's (Lemon Garlic wings); The Cellar (Cajun wings with a avocado, blue cheese dip) and Lisa G's with their salt/vinegar wings!
We are so thankful for our friends at WSLP-FM/93.3 for their continued support and sponsorship of Wing Wars 4, presented by Yuengling.  $2,745 was raised to support North Country Life Flight's air rescue mission!   This year we added a silent auction which helped raise over $500 of that total.   We thank everyone who donated items for the auction and our Wing War fans who came out to support Life Flight by eating, voting and supporting our raffles.  Nick who won the 50/50 raffle donated $50 of his take back to Life Flight!   Thanks!  Thanks again to Wise Guys for hosting Wing Wars4 and congratulations on your Wing War 4 victory.   WSLP's Jim Williams said plans are already in the works for Wing Wars 5!  Secret recipes are being formulated...

Lake Placid Mayor Craig Randall receives a check for Life Flight from WSLP-FM Morning  DJ Paul Varga.   Life Flight  Ground Team Volunteer & former Life Flight patient Jan Washburn was also happy to see the $2745 raised for the air rescue team.

We raffled off this great snowboard donated by Yuengling, presenter of Wing Wars 4!

Wise Guys owner Lisa received the Wing Wars IV trophy from Lake Placid Mayor Craig Randall!   Wise Guys (winner of Wing Wars I & II)  recaptured the chicken trophy after surrendering it to Kanu at Wing Wars III.

Handcrafted for a Cause

A special thanks to Carol Buksa of Plattsburgh for her support of North Country Life Flight at PumpkinFest.   Carol makes beautiful decorative towel sets and crocheted dish cloths to support various charities in our region.   She chose Life Flight's PumpkinFest on Saturday with appreciation for the flight to Burlington 20 years ago that helped save her husband Frank's life.  Frank was critically injured in an industrial accident in Plattsburgh with a traumatic brain injury.   Thankfully, Frank recovered and Frank, his friends and family are so thankful.  Their daughter Cheri helped Carol with PumpkinFest sales.

Carol also sold beautiful hats and scarves made by Nola Jarrett.   Nola donated the sales to Life Flight as well.   These ladies are good friends of  ground team volunteer Jan Washburn ; Jan and the entire Life Flight team so appreciate their generosity.

It is the day after PumpkinFest and all the talk is about how impressive the students of the Saranac Lake Central School District are. WOW! Really, WOW! Thank you for everything you did all weekend long to make the PumpkinFest such a wonderful event for the community. From the athletic to the scholarly to the creative, they all came out to work together to put on a great event. We couldn't begin to thank them, their teachers and their families enough. Know they are impressive. We should be very proud of the children of the Red Storm and they should be very proud of themselves. Lives will be saved because of the work they did this weekend. Thank you, all, and everyone who helped make the PumpkinFest such a wonderful community event.

In Memory of Francis Leonard

Ground team volunteer and former patient Jan Washburn lost her 95 year old stepdad this week.   He had a long life, well lived.  His life was filled with hard work and devoted to caring for others.   Jan credits North Country Life Flight for helping Francis Leonard enjoy an extended life.   "By saving my life, says Jan, Life Flight made it possible for me to be able to help my Papa Leonard when he became ill in 2008.  My husband David and I brought him to live with us for last three years where he enjoyed many good days and good times with our family."  Memorial donations in Francis Leonard memory can be made to North Country Life Flight.  Thank you all.

Many thanks to the Saranac Lake Youth Center for the bicycle in tribute to North Country Life Flight and our air rescue mission.   Donny from the Youth Center did a great job creating the bicycle and it now sits in Berkley Square in Saranac Lake.

Look for the Youth Center's bikes around town, many done in tribute to local organizations.   It's a great way to recycle old bikes and bring some color to our town.   Great job!

With Gratitude during EMS Week

This week is EMS Week. Thank you to all the EMS volunteers, who for twenty-two years have made Life Flight possible. Each of you have made a lasting impression, whether you are working on the ground or in the air. Also, thank you to all the EMTs in the field. You're wonderful and we appreciate (more than you will ever know) all you do to make our jobs easier. A thumbs-up to you all.  Pictured above is one of our great EMS volunteers, Billy Martin.

April is National Volunteer Month, a time to celebrate the work that volunteers do year-round. It’s a wonderful thing when people are willing to put their skills to use for the greater good of their community and neighbors.
North Country Life Flight is extremely grateful for its team of highly skilled medical professionals who give their time generously to help accomplish our missions. We take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to our volunteers. They have made such a difference to so many and we couldn’t do it without them.

We would also like to say thank you to our "ground team," volunteers, the people our patients never meet, but help us in daily operations, fund-raising and events. Anyone who has been to Life Flight's PumpkinFest has seen the teams of student and adult volunteers who turn out faithfully every year to make those events fun and successful.
Many thanks to all our volunteers; you are an important part of the North Country Life Flight team.
