North Country Life Flight was invited to participate in the Champlain Valley Classic Cruisers 2009 Spring Nationals this past weekend at the Clinton County Fairgrounds in Morrisonville, NY. An annual family event, this year's Spring Nationals attracted 400 cars and many families from across the North Country.
Former Life Flight patient and car club member, Jan Washburn, wrote the Classic Cruisers, as a Life Flight fund-raising volunteer, asking them to consider adding North Country Life Flight as one of the charities the club supports. Club officers voted and agreed to add North Country Life Flight as their fourth charity this year.
North Country Life Flight was present both Saturday and Sunday with an informational table offering literature about our mission; accepting pledges in support of WSLP's "SitDown, SmackDown" event coming up in Lake Placid on Saturday, May 30; selling handcrafted cutting boards donated by Sid Ward of Jay, NY and visiting with our North Country neighbors. Several former patients stopped by with their families to say thank you to Life Flight.
The Spring Nationals raises funds for four local organizations and on Sunday afternoon the Champlain Valley Classic Cruisers presented Jan and Mary Connors, Life Flight President and CEO, with a check for $1,000 for North Country Life Flight.
The amazing thing about the well-organized wonderful event was the amount of work and money put into each of the 400 cars. It was quite impressive, whether you are a car buff or not. Also quite impressive was the Washburn's entry, a 1969 RS/SS Chevrolet Camaro. Jan's husband David spent five years restoring the Camaro and it brought home a couple of awards from the weekend's festivities.
